Dental implants are a titanium screw surgically placed into the jaw, on which a single implant crown can be placed to replace a single tooth, or attachments can be placed to support a dental prosthesis that replaces multiple teeth. Dental implants cannot decay, are very strong, and can be very long lasting. Some dental implant surgeries can be performed by your doctors at Lakeland Dental Professionals, while some implants are referred to specialists when inadequate bone is available, when the patient is medically compromised, or any other reason the case may be complex. We restore dental implants, from single implants to multiple units. For a single dental implant, an abutment is screwed into the implant, and then a crown is cemented on top of the abutment. In some cases, an abutment and crown will be simultaneously torqued as one piece into the dental implant. Dental implants can also be used to for a fixed partial denture or bridge, replacing multiple teeth at once. Typically, two dental implants are placed as pier teeth and then a three unit fixed partial denture is cemented on these two dental implants.
Dental implants can also be used to support partial or complete dentures, by adding an attachment to the dental implant that allows the denture to "snap on" to. This can add support to your denture and allow for less mobility of the denture.
