What is a General Dentist?

General dentists are trained in all aspects of dentistry. General dentists perform preventative dentistry, including diagnosis by x-rays, exams, and oral cancer screenings. General dentists perform restorative dentistry, including filling cavities, repairing broken teeth, and replacing missing teeth. General dentists treat tooth aches, including root canals and removing teeth. General dentists perform cosmetic procedures, including crown and bridge as well as bonding and whitening. General dentists can also perform surgery, including removing teeth, placing implants, and gum surgery.

Some procedures may be referred to a specialist, dentists who have had further training in specific aspects of dentistry. If your general dentist refers you to a specialist, they believe you would better be treated in the hands of someone with more advanced training due to complexity of the case.

At Lakeland Dental Professionals, we want what is best for our patients and we work closely with our specialists to provide the best care.
